It is an historic and important building set in rural Somerset. Built and altered over many centuries, for a considerable number of years belonging to the church, and used by the Bishops of Bath and Wells in their progressions around the diocese, dispensing justice and collecting tithes and fines. Later it became the country seat of various families of landed gentry and aristocracy, principally the Canons and Southeys (of poet fame) and also of Lord Ashburton, an important agricultural innovator and politician of the late 18th early 19th century. In
its present guise it has become an individual and fascinating private
home, now available for Bed and Breakfast, offering comfortable and
spacious en suite accommodation tucked away in the sandstone walls of
the hamlet of Fitzhead, You will have an unique experience, in the care
and capable hands of the owner, a professional chef, who is also able
to offer dinner in addition to full English breakfast, using local produce.
The friendly and hospitable atmosphere will enchant you and the calm
and peace of the setting, close to the Quantock
Hills and Exmoor will offer you rest and undisturbed sleep.
Cost of Accommodation: £30 per person inclusive of breakfast.
